Sacramento Trend Alert: Colored Denim

Sacramento: Colored Denim Alert!

Skinny. Boot. Straight. Bell. Pop a Dramamine, we're about to add yet another denim trend to the ever-so-growing list this season: COLORED DENIM! Breathe. This new crop of colored denim is NOTHING like those five-button colored Bongo get-ups of Junior High. The hottest colors this go-around? Reds, teals and this year's "it" color, yellow, worn in skinny or straight leg.

Stuffed sausage alert: avoid being mistaken for one, and trade the equally snug top for a looser version and remember, beware of the colors you mix, no bumblebees or Christmas trees in May please!

Looking for a pair in Sacramento? Check out Urban Outfitters for there super affordable purple version (right) on sale for $59 bucks. With a price tag like this you won't feel bad when you banish these to the back of your closet at the whisper of the next hottest thing in denim.

Masullo Pizza in Sacramento

Masullo Pizza Coming to Riverside Blvd in Sacramento!

Amidst the flashy whirlwind of new restaurants to Sacramento, sometimes you crave the romance of good ole' fashion comfort food. One you can count on; one to hold you when you just want to be held.

Enter Masullo Pizza. Owner and former Mustard's Grill pastry chef, Robert Masullo, plans to take us on a trip to Italy with a new Neapolitan-style pizzeria set to debut this summer on Riverside Blvd.

Recession approved prices, and a no fuss menu you won't have to pretend to understand. Menu will change seasonally--just like our handbags.

Individual plate-sized pizzas will be served authentic Neapolitan style, sizzling in wood-burning ovens soaring to temps hotter than Augusts in Sacramento. Toppings will be spread with a light touch; quality over quantity. The "Londra" and "Yerba" seem especially intriguing.

Blank Blank will complete the masterpiece and a noble walnut tree, long time resident of 10th & Richards Blvd, will come back reincarnated as the restaurants' tables and counter tops.

Study their menu online, and wait patiently for their reveal at the end of May. Buon appetito!

Masullo Pizza will be located at 2711 Riverside Blvd. masullopizza.com

RetroLodge In Sacramento

Sacramento: RetroLodge Lands on 11th & H Streets... Retro Lodge
The once dismal downtown corner of 11th and H Streets, home to the Travelodge for the last 40 years, is now rockin' a revived retro shape as Retrolodge gets set to go back in time!

The throw back dream team? Developers Mike Heller, Mark Davis & Randy Boehms, along with RMW Architects (MARRS project) and blankblank interior design team, joined forces and talent to turn this once bordering-on-blight block into a sexy Sacramento corner!

The Palm Springs-circa-1950's project is made up of two separate buildings, Elroy & Astro--a nostalgic play off that crazy futurist cartoon we grew up watching. There will be 50 work/live studios ranging in size from 280 – 632 square feet including common area conference rooms, kitchenettes, and a re-designed interior courtyard--all this, and parking on site!

At street level expect a mix of the usual suspects--restaurants, coffee houses, and a thread of local art and artists...as with the MARRS project, there will be an emphasis on landing diverse retailers, keeping the spot 'alive' at all hours of day and night...

Sure to be the new It office and retail location hotspot, we're told The Retrolodge will be complete by the end of May!

Sacramento: As Seen On...

At the Kevin Johnson for Mayor Fundraiser at The Park last week, the question that stole the show had nothing to do with politics...

Sacramento: My Beautiful Mommy Debate

Sacramento Moms: My Beautiful Mommy, helpful or harmful?

What do you get when you mix a kids book with plastic surgery? A heated debate and a whole lot of press! (Can you say My Rich Plastic Surgeon Daddy?)

Dr. Michael Salzhauer, a Florida based plastic surgeon, is responsible for the book that's sparking so much debate...My Beautiful Mommy, a picture book due out April 28th, claims to ease the fears of kids by helping moms explain their 'transformation' to their children--taking them through mommy's post op, surgery and the healing process in a "friendly and non-threatening way."

With nearly 11.7 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2007, with average post-surgery recovery times of 3 weeks, it's become more and more of a reality that children in the U.S. will likely experience some sort of cosmetic procedure or plastic surgery before they become old enough to elect it for themselves....so, the question is, does this book designed to "help" really do just that, or is its message about plastic surgery the wrong one to be sending to our kids?

What are your thoughts? My Beautiful Mommy, a helpful tool or a harmful message?

Twinsoup Asks Sacramento: Hot or Not?

Twinsoup Asks Sacramento: Hot or Not?

Men may come and go, but girlfriends shoes are forever...In honor of a girl's best friend we bring you our picks for some of the oddest & ugliest shoe 'trends' that have hit the Spring '08 runways so far...

Don't you hate it when that happens?! Wait, take a second look...after closer inspection we uncovered that these Prada pumps are not the unfortunate result of your stiletto's stumbling upon a steaming Fido surprise...These peep toe Mary Jane's are actually straight from the Spring '08 Prada runway, Prada's interpretation of their 'flower-heel' shoe!

Well, they might be ugly but at least their affordable...pick up this steal at Neiman Marcus for just $750?!

Fed up with the stability of traditional heels? (Who isn't?!) Go head over heels-less for a $3600 pair of 5 1/2 inch 'heel-less heel' snakeskin Antonio Beradri's! A great way to spend way too much money on a sure-to-be-OUT-next-Spring trend!

Fashion forward? Marc thinks we should try fashion backward instead! Marc Jacobs aimed to re-invent the shoe wheel when he showcased his 'backwards' heel down his Spring 2008 catwalk! Caution: May cause motion sickness, clumsy walking abilities and uncontrollable outbursts of laughter...

Hooray! Just in time for bikini weather... Lisa Carney crafted these 'high-tide' heels for her Spring fashion show and before you get excited...they were created exclusively for her show and they're not for actual sale...

Damn...and these flipper slippers would have gone with just everything!!!
