Star Ginger Opens: Thai One On
Weeks and weeks of NFL post-season games have left you in a Oscar Mayer coma. Apple pie turns your stomach un-American. The sight of jalapeño poppers makes you want to pop.
Tickle your palette with the exciting flavors of Star Ginger, waking your taste buds from their over-processed sleep.
Chef Mai Pham of Lemon Grass restaurant and noodle bars, draws inspiration for the menu from that Sacramento institution, as well as her childhood in Vietnam and Thailand and subsequent travels in Southern Asia. The result is an assortment of asian street food, noodle dishes, and curries designed for the midtown market. Currently, the restaurant is only open for counter service, but a full dinner menu is expected in February.
Standout dished include: warm Vietnamese bánh mì toasted sandwiches, stuffed with Grilled Lemongrass chicken, vegetables Korean BBQ Niman Ranch Beef and more; the Vegetarian Pho, in roasted-ginger broth and Thai Chicken Green Curry. Top with a glass of wine and beer, or a cup of young coconut juice.
Erase the memory of the prior occupant (Togos). Star Ginger is sleek, earthy and totally modern. Walls are paneled or tiled in smooth wood, while amber pendant lights, and lit rectangular insets cast a warm glow over diners.
Welcome to chip and dip rehab.
