The Grace Foundation: Back in the Saddle
Was ‘help others’ a New Year’s Resolution? The Grace Foundation will be your other.
Established in 2003 by Beth DeCaprio, the organization rescues and rehabilitates abused and neglected animals. Today, over 200 animals call the 600-acre ranch in El Dorado Hills home.
Many rescued horses are used in the Foundation’s Equine Therapy program for people with special emotional or physical needs. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship.
Results of horseback riding therapy include improved motor skills, balance and coordination. The bonds and companionship fostered by caring for the horses enhance social skills and self-esteem.
Programs are tailored to the individual’s needs. Children with reading or writing disabilities can read letters atop horses. Those afraid of horseback riding can groom a horse instead, or work with a goat, cat or dog.
If spending an afternoon volunteering for the program seems like your bale of hay or sending a monetary donation is more your speed, check one on your resolution list.
